Looking for a nice date spot with a great view? That would not break the bank? Argungu is it! Argungu is the seafood branch of the Nkoyo restaurant chain. It is at the waterfront of Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja. Guess who went to a seafood restaurant and did not realize till after? yeah you should read.
My friend had been raving about this place with nice chicken in Jabi Lake Mall for a while now. But I kept posting until finally the time presented itself.
Now if you know the popular Nkoyo restaurant chain in Abuja, Argungu is a seafood restaurant of theirs. I’m a big fan of the Nkoyo decor, although I have only been to the branch in Ceddi Plaza.
Argungu did not disappoint in that regards. It has a very Afro-centric vibe going with printed adire table clothes, paintings and more. There is a nice view of the lake. I went during the day, but my friend told me it looks even more picturesque at night. It’s a great spot for meetings, a first date or even just to have a quiet work date.
Walking in there on hot afternoon my first thought was to go inside but outside looked so pretty and I knew it would make for great pictures. The waiters further convinced me by turning a fan to face me. So I was comfortable.
I wasn’t too hungry, my wasn’t as well so we decided to share the chicken plus I trust Nkoyo serves healthy portions. Then the waiter suggested I get a side order for myself, based on small fit fam I went with basmati rice which came with a sauce. We ordered two glasses of White wine (Just Chardonnay) because it was TGIF and day drinking was the plan.
While we waited for our food we were served some sweet potato chips (basically looked like big plantain chips but in sweet potato form)
Our food took about 20/30 minutes to arrive but since we were catching up, I didn’t feel the wait.
The Food Review
Now the chicken was very well seasoned, soft and juicy. It was subtly spicy. So if you do not like pepper this is the one for you. It also came with a small bowl of salad which I didn’t try because not everyday eat plants.
The basmati rice was well cooked and just right. Now the sauce that came with it, from my first impression it looked like tomato or pepper purée so I was skeptical.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by how yummy it was. My only complaint was that the sauce was way too small for the portion of rice they served it with. I didn’t bother asking for more because I really was stuffed after eating some of the rice.
The wine was lovely and fruity, being the lightweight I currently am, by half a glass I was already tipsy.
This is great pick for a nice date with a view of the Jabi Lake. The waiters are friendly, helpful and available. The prices are good for the portions, I’m yet to completely finish any food I’ve eaten here because it is always filling. I highly recommend this place.
