I am majorly obsessed with cinnamon. Which is why I decided to share a few things that go nicely with cinnamon. I really love everything about cinnamon, like the scent, the aroma and flavour as well.
If you don’t like cinnamon or are yet to try it, here are a few health related reasons why you should.
According to Web MD, lab studies have found that cinnamon can reduce inflammation, is packed with antioxidants, fights bacteria and may even lower blood sugar with in people with diabetes.
Do I personally use cinnamon because of its numerous health benefits? Nope, I’m just obsessed. But you still need to totally try it.
To the things that go well with cinnamon…
1. MILK / MILO
A glass of warm milk or milo can be absolutely transformed with just a dash of cinnamon on top. Let it be the very last thing you add right before you drink, you don’t even need to stir. Just drink and thank me later.
2. BLACK COFFEE
This is a major hit in my house, my dad and sister showed me the light. Just add a dash or two of cinnamon to cup of hot brewed coffee. Enjoy the burst of flavor and the amazing aroma they give.
3. PUFF PUFF
There are two ways to use cinnamon here. First way, add cinnamon to the puff puff mix/dough before you start frying.
Second way, mix 2 parts of brown sugar with 1 part cinnamon and use that as a topping on your yummy fried puff puff. Trust me, it is such a treat!
It gives it a little twist and you can easily call it “Cinnamon spiced Puff puff” or something more fancy. Yes, wow your friends with this new twist.
4. FRENCH TOAST
I loveeee me some French toast and if you’re looking for a French toast recipe that might easily change your life check out this one here from http://www.bearnakedfood.com/2016/04/13/creme-brulee-french-toast/
Basically you can try it the same two ways with the puff puff as I already described. It’s always so lit
Spice up your plain bowl of oatmeal with some cinnamon today. It changes up the flavour and just makes it a little more interesting. I have a lot more ways of making oats interesting so I’ll probably share that in another post.
You could add cinnamon while you are making the oats or after it is ready. Whichever way, it makes a lot of sense.
6. ICE CREAM
Yes! Ice cream is yummy when some cinnamon is involved. I have personally tried it with vanilla and chocolate based ice creams. So feel free to do the same or be spontaneous and try it with a completely different kind.
7. PLAIN/ GREEK YOGHURT BOWLS
If you’re a fit fam member or you just like Greek yoghurt. I’m sure you might have tried yoghurt bowls. It is basically plain/Greek yoghurt with a bunch of things in it like honey, nuts, berries, fruits and so on.
Try cinnamon today with your yoghurt bowl and make it different. For your first try you could add bananas, a little honey, peanuts/cashew and of course some cinnamon!
8. PANCAKES / WAFFLES
I always thought cinnamon was one of the fundamental ingredients to this two because that is how my Mum always made it. I learnt otherwise later on.
So if you are part of the people carrying last, please start adding cinnamon to your pancake and waffle mix. Thanks.
If you add very little you won’t notice the cinnamon there but add just enough and enjoy that cinnamony feel your pancakes and waffles deserve.
9. COFFEE LIQUEUR
My best sweet alcohol has got to be the Patron XO Cafe Tequila Coffee Liqueur. It was only right I found a way to combine two of my best things.
Add some cold milk to a single or double shot of Patron XO Cafe and then sprinkle some cinnamon into that. It tastes so good!
The first time I tried it, I had to have two cups just cause it tasted sooo good!
An extra tip, cinnamon also works with creamy liquor like Baileys Irish Cream, Amarula and the like. Adding a dash to your glass of it when it is chilled or with ice is amazing too.
Being a cinnamon lover, I absolutely love the cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Unfortunately, the times I do find it in Nigeria it is always in extra large size. Or it looks like it has been on the shelf for a suspiciously long time. Hereby crushing my cinnamon lover dreams.
Which is why I started adding cinnamon to my other cereals to help me cope. Some cereals I would recommend you try it with are Cornflakes (Nasco, Kellogg’s), Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Frosted Flakes and Rice Krispies.
Feel free to try it with some others and please put me on. Always down to explore with cinnamon.
Let me know if you try any and what you think. So we can form a cinnamon lovers group and discover more!
Also, if you have any other ways you use cinnamon. Please tell me! Thanks.
Till next time,
